Until There Was You by Kristin Higgins Review and Giveaway! (USA)

Posey Osterhagen can't complain. She owns a successful architectural salvaging company, she's surrounded by her lovable, if off-center, family and she has a boyfriend—sort of. Still, something's missing. Something tall, brooding and criminally good-looking…something like Liam Murphy.
When Posey was sixteen, the bad boy of Bellsford, New Hampshire, broke her heart. But now he's back, sending Posey's traitorous schoolgirl heart into overdrive once again. She should be giving him a wide berth, but it seems fate has other ideas….

Goodreads Summary

This book is perfect for a long drive or a day at the beach. Posey, the main character, will come across as funny, compassionate, sweet, and inquisitive.  The reader finds out she is adopted, this has a deep impact on Posey; she is unsure whether or not to contact her birth mother, her thoughts are later complicated by an unexpected discovery.  Posey is likely the best part of the novel, she is likable and easy to connect to.

Posey's life is going mostly as planned...until Liam, the bad boy, returns.  Posey feels instant attraction to Liam and can't help but gravitate towards him.  Liam is now a father and trying to act responsible to stay a father.  Their relationship is rocky at best.  The reader will enjoy reading about their relationship and rooting for Posey.

The characters are fun to get to know, even the secondary characters.  The events are fast-paced.  The ending is perfect for this novel.  This book is recommended to adult readers.

Author Q/A!

  1. What was your inspiration for this book?
I loved the idea of a bad-boy hero. Who doesn’t, right? And I also wanted to write an unconventional heroine. So we have Liam Murphy, he who laid waste to the hearts of many a teenage girl during high school, and Posey Osterhagen, the scrawny tomboy who worshipped him from afar.

  1. Is Posey based on a real person(s)? There aren't many characters like her.
Thank you! Nope, she comes from my imagination. Let me tell you, it was hard to understand what it must be like to battle being underweight. Most body image issues stem from the other end of the scale, so that was a challenge, to write a character who has to eat every three hours and can’t gain a pound.

  1. What was your favorite scene to write?
Most definitely the elevator scene and the one that comes after that one. Oh, I had fun with that scene!

  1. Are you working on any new books now?

I am always working on a new book. Right now, I’m actually working on four! My next book is called SOMEBODY TO LOVE and is the story of Parker Welles, the children’s author from THE NEXT BEST THING. She learns rather abruptly that she’s broke and has to go to Maine to flip a house…Gideon’s Cove, Maine, the setting of CATCH OF THE DAY. The book will feature Maggie and Malone from Catch, so readers will get to see what happened with those two as well. That comes out in May 2012.

I’m also outlining a series set in the beautiful Finger Lakes region of New York. Wine country, mountains, lakes, beautiful little towns…can’t wait!
